The End.
Just kidding. This was the beginning. The second one in Alaska.
I drove to Alaska in my newly purchased truck. A truck that had the window smashed out while sitting out back of a bar. A story for another time.
After driving up through British Columbia and Yukon Territory via the Alcan, I finally arrived in Alaska, somewhat anti-climatically. I expected a repeat of the nightmare of entering Canada from I-5, but it never happened. I don’t think I even stopped, just drove on in from Canada to our northernmost, and most stunning state. Back in the U.S.A. It was a relief. After a few miles of calm quiet awestruck driving, I caught site of this view, pulled over alongside the Alaska Highway, grabbed my handy-dandy crappy camera and took this photograph. The first of not-enough photographs of Alaska I shot during my second tour. This tour would be far different than the first, this second tour, having a vehicle and a higher rank, for starters. A rank I did not want, if I’m honest about it.
After stopping here I kept through Tok, then Delta Junction, and then right around the river bend back to Ft. Geely, where I was not destined to stay, much to my open dismay. At least the drive from Haynes Junction to Fort Greely was uneventful.
Stories for yet another day.
More information on the Alcan highway, if you would like it. There are quite a few websites, I like this one. I still have my Milepost tome about Alaska that I kept on the passenger seat next to me during the drive. https://themilepost.com/articles/notable-stops-in-celebration-of-80-years-of-the-alaska-highway/
If you would like more information about me, please see my About page. I also have a youtube channel, but it’s gardening and weather, not Alaska related.
